Week 3 Blog, Notes for Suppoting Research

  • This weeks notes towards Action Research- Increasing Communication with Parents Using Technology
1) I read through school files and here were some of my finding to support my research:
  • Our CEIC (campus improvement committee) met recently and formulated these summaries-
Family and Community Involvement Summary

Odom has a strong base of family involvement.  Lead by a parent facilitator, Odom welcomes hundreds of parents each month to visit teachers and classrooms, attend open house or parent training sessions, and support their children and their school.  Administration's open door encourages parents to be a part of the school and be active in making decisions about their children.  Parent-self Serve is encouraged for each parent and facilitated for them.

 Family and Community Involvement Strengths

Lots of involvement from parents who support band, cheerleaders, athletics, choir, dance, orchestra, math and science team as well as all school academic pursuits.  A positive image in the community.  Partnership with the Beaumont Children's Museum as well as with the symphony and historical entities.

Family and Community Involvement Needs

Odom needs to continue to work to involve our lower income parents who are not comfortable in their interactions with the school and who, therefore, are not available to work with the school to help their children succeed.

Schoolwide Program Plan
Odom Academy will involve parents in the joint development of the Title I plan and the process of school review and improvements through Campus Parent Involvement Advisor Roundtable Committee and CEIC.  Odom Academy will work with parents to improve performance through providing individual assistance and parent workshops.

Full INVOLVEMENT of parents, teachers and the community
Other findings in files as far as teacher expectations:
-We are expected to post your activities on the big calendars after clearing them with the master calendar on Mrs. Tew’s desk.
-Form a positive partnership with parents through contacts, phone calls
-Integrate and teach technology in all classes as appropriate
.  Odom’s policy is that we serve our customers, the students and their parents, in the best way we can
